Flocculant Blocks are a simple and convenient method for applying flocculant
to water requiring clarification.
Flocculant Blocks consist of fine granules of powder grade flocculant dispersed in a solid, but readily water-soluble polymer. The carrier polymer is non-toxic. As water flows over the block, flocculant is released which reacts with sediment. The solids settle rapidly leaving a clear treated water. Flocculant Blocks are ideal for dosing flocculant in remote locations such as storm water drains and detention dams and in situations where regular supervision of dosing is not practical. |

Flocculant Blocks are rectangular in shape, dimensions approximately 200
x 150 x 100 mm. Each block weighs 3kg.
Each 3kg block will treat approximately 300,000 litres of water. The most common method for applying the blocks is to place 3-4 blocks in a 20 mm aperture wire mesh cage. The cage is positioned at a point of turbulence that will ensure contact with most of the water flow. A point of turbulence may have to be created if one does not exist. The wire cage should be firmly secured by rope or other means. The turbulent flow across the blocks scours away the water soluble polymer releasing flocculant into the water stream. Flocculation of sediment and suspended solids occurs immediately. A portion of the flocculant carries forward in the water to reflocculate the solids. This is of benefit when natural turbulence is excessive as these conditions may degrade the flocs. For small flow rates the block can be broken into small chips and placed in a pipe or overflow weir. Flocculation is affected by temperature and waster solids content. Cold water usually requires more mixing than warm water with high solids content. |

DamClear Flocculant Block grades are available ...
DamClear Flocculant Block AN1 Formulated for applications where water pH is relatively neutral (pH 6 - 9). DamClear Flocculant Block AN2 Formulated for applications where water may be acidic, alkaline or where the water has been pre-treated with lime. In many situations both types of Flocculant Blocks work equally well. The cage is positioned at a point of turbulence that will ensure contact with most of the water flow. Jar tests can be used to establish the best flocculant grade for a particular application. Jar tests compare the rate of solids settlement, floc size and floc strength when equal quantities of flocculant are added to equal volumes of water. Tests are typically done on one litre samples of water in a beaker or glass jar. A jar test procedure is available on request. DamClear Flocculant Blocks do not contain aluminium or iron and will not affect water pH.
