The Granular Media Filter is a deep bed of filter coal and sand which provides a graded media porosity to enable high levels of solids capture including both micron size and larger mm sized flocs. The graded media allows deep solids penetration without rapid surface clogging thereby tolerating variable settling tank performance. As solids are captured in the filter, back pressure rises steadily. At a predetermined set point the filter is back washed to restore the porosity of the filter media. The Granular Media Filter will typically reduce suspended solids levels to less than 20 mg/L. Filters are available in simplex or duplex form to suit both low or high flow rates. |

Media Filters are generally applied to mixed wastewaters after pre-treatment
such as flocculation and settling. Alternatively, the filter may be applied
to specific processes to either purify or recover water.
Granular Media Filtration is suitable for most waste systems where solids are to be removed. |
